Breeding - Cave Spawner, provide caves in the form of rockwork, driftwood, oak leaves, clay pots, etc.
Personal Remarks - A. nijsseni prefers soft, acidic water as well as frozen &/or live foods. Spawns usually have around 20-50 eggs depending on the size & age of the female. As for most Apistogramma, an even sex ratio may be achieved when fry are raised at a temperature of around 80 F. Fry take baby brine shrimp and show sexual dimorphism at about 6-8 months of age.
Additional Remarks - A. nijsseni is the type species for the A. nijsseni Complex. Other species within the complex include, A. atahualpa, A . baenschi, A. panduro, A. payaminonis, A. sp. "Inka II"& A. sp. "Harlekin" |
