Family - Cichlidae

Scientific Name - Crenicichla compressiceps

Distribution/Location - Rio Tocantins, Brazil

Water Parameters - pH 6.5-7.5

Temperature - 78-84 F

Size - Male: 3.25" Female: 2.5-2.75"

Breeding - Cave Spawner, provide caves in the form of rockwork, driftwood, oak leaves, clay pots, etc.

Personal Remarks - C. compressiceps does best on a diet of frozen &/or live foods. Very aggressive to conspecifics, provide at least a 4' tank or larger. Difficult to spawn & would probably be best to attempt in a species tank. I have only managed to spawn this species once. A pair chose to lay their eggs on a flower pot next to a pile of rocks (photo) after much courtship & displaying. Eggs turned out to be infertile.
