Distribution/Location - Rio Xingu, Brazil with similar species or subspecies wide spread throughout the Amazon River Basin; other locations include Rio Tapajos & Rio Trombetas among others.

Water Parameters - pH 6-6.8

Temperature - 76-84 F

Size - Males: 8" Females: 6"

Breeding - The only known Geophagus species that is an open brooder. May be one of the oldest Geophagus species.

Personal Remarks - Care is straightforward as long as regular water changes are preformed.
