Book References - African Cichlid I - Cichlids from West Africa by Horst Linke & Dr. Wolfgang Staeck

While this book is now kind of out of date due to the newest book by Anton Lamboj on West African cichlids, it was the best book on West African cichlids for quite a while. Now out of print, Cichlids from West Africa offers a great deal of information along with some great photography.

Horst Linke & Dr. Wolfgang Steack take us through 10 Genera within 200 pages & document care, the natural habitat, breeding of each species &. a map with the locations of each species is provided. On top of this, where the author's were able to, a table of the location is given with water parameters. A very well documented book for when it was written in 1994.

An interesting note here is that this book looks to list the rare species of Pelvicachromis sp. aff. subocellatus that we acquired from Ted Judy on our visit to Wiscounsin. This particular type of subocellatus is said to be smaller growing with males growing to less then 3.5" & females to 2". The location is listed as Ethiop River in Southern Nigeria where it can be found with P. pulcher. Hopefully AmazonCichlids.com can spawn this species & distribute to other aquarists.
