Book References - Aqualog South American Cichlids I

Aqualog books are well known for the most part one thing, their pictures. While most people would probably just say that its a good guide just to look at all the species that are known to science, I believe this helps aquarists learn what species are out there & to help in identification of species that would otherwise get lost in the mix.

Aqualog South American Cichlids I was the first book offered by the company in the series. The 110 page book may be small but it makes up for it by the number of pictures. Most of the pages contain 8 pictures on them each & give several photos of most species within it.

The best thing about Aqualog's is that they leave room in the back of the book for regular updates. If new species are found, then a sticker tag is made & can be place in the proper place in the book. The worst part of the book is the lack of information. There is hardly any information outside of their maximum size & location to where the fish is found. If the book did contain information on the care of each species, it would certainly compete more with some of the more comprehensive atlas' (i.e. The Baensch Atlas'). That said, the books are great reference guides to show fellow aquarists of what to expect species of fish to turn into.
