Book References - DATZ L-Numbers

Written by Rainer Stawikowski, Andre Werner & Ingo Seidel, DATZ L-Numbers introduces aquarists to Loricarridae by going through the natural habitat & the care & reproduction of these catfish. While I am sure the guide guide doesn't show every known species of Loricarridae known (what book could?), it does do a good job of showcasing the species that were known at the time (2004).

Perhaps some of the biggest keys to this issue are within the 3 articles provided, 15 Years of Loricarridae, Observations on the Ecology of Loricariid Catfish & Care & Reproduction of L-numbers. Some great ideas for possible food items are given within the Keeping & Breeding section of the third article. Such food items for Lorricarridae include tablets & pelleted foods, insect larvae, shrimp, soft wood & aufwuchs (algae covered rocks where bacteria grow) depending on what Genera we are working with.

Between the 130 pages, 387 L-numbers are covered along with 24 described species. Genera included in the magazine style atlas include Acanthicus, Ancistrus, Chaetostoma, Cochliodon, Hypancistrus, Hypostomus, Leporacanthicus, Panaque, Peckoltia, Pseudacanthicus, Scobiancistrus & many more. Overall, this is probably one of the best guides for IDing Loricarridae until the 2nd edition of the Catfish Atlas has been published in English.
